With so many women seeking breast enhancement today, we felt it would help to cover the five considerations every women should have when deciding on the details. These elements will influence results after surgery.

Most women want to enhance the look of their breasts by making them larger. However, they do not want them so large that they look unnatural.

Plastic surgeons usually offer breast implant sizers for patients to test out which size looks best. Before and after photos of comparably sized breasts can also help women decide on how many CCs they should go with.

Type of Breast Implant

Women can choose from silicone or saline filled implants. Saline is a very popular choice because the incision is smaller and the surgeon can take an unfilled saline implant and fill them to the desired size.

Women who want their breasts to feel as natural as possible often choose silicone implants. The silicone feels more like human breast tissue than saline. Silicone implants are placed in the body already filled, and often cost more than saline implants.

Incision Type

Along with your plastic surgeon, the placement of the incision needs to be decided. The four types of incisions are transaxillary, inframmary, areolar, and transumbilical. Inframmary is the most common incision placement; it is made in the breast crease. Women choose this type because the scar is not easily seen..

Surfaces

Breast implants come with either a smooth or textured surface. Smooth implants have a lower rupture rate and last longer than textured saline styles. However, smooth implants are more susceptible to moving in the pocket of the breast. Textured implants are less likely to displace, and there is less chance of capsular contracture.

The Look of the Breasts

Women need to decide on the look of their breasts. There are two general options: round or anatomical.

Round breast implants are symmetrical. While many people believe round implants do not look natural, that is untrue. They can look just as natural as the anatomical style because they will conform to a woman’s breast pocket, thus creating a natural breast look.

Anatomical breast implants are teardrop shaped, so they have more volume toward the bottom. Displacement is a possibility with this implant shape, so most plastic surgeons recommend the textured teardrop shape to decrease the chance of this happening.
